Grave Site Trail Report
March 21th 2009
Another large turn
out. Sometimes I think, wow this is too many
vehicles to manage. Instead this was a very fun
trip. I love hearing everyone’s stories.
Marcel’s stories get a little old hearing the
same ones over and over again. He promises he
will take his Adderall prior to the next trip.
I believe we had 17 vehicles. 2 meet up
points. Everyone was on time and air downed and
on the road by 8:45ish. We went through Castle
Hot Springs on the way. We stopped to enjoy the
scenery and photo ops. There were few people
who hadn’t seen this oasis in the desert
before. Awesome place. Followed Castle Creek
and took a break at “Snoopy Canyon”. Once we
stopped, it was hard to get Vern back in the
truck but we managed. We passed through the
town site of Briggs and headed up the hill
towards Copperopolis. If we had more time I
would have loved to show everyone the
Copperopolis mine and town site. We had to move
on. After a few hill climbs we stopped at
Bradshaw Grave Site and had our lunch and field
club meeting. Views were good, the company
excellent, but no shade. Now I wishing I was in
my 80 with the air on, then I realized in the 40
the noise drummed out Marcel’s woman talk, and
all was good.
Headed out to Swallow Mine and Ron had a flat on
his 4Runner, Duct Tape Steve broke a shock mount
and battery tray mount. The group took
advantage of the break down to get lessons on
the use of duct tape from the expert.
Took the high speed run down Buckhorn Wash where
we met up with a couple in a Tacoma who was
looking for some directions. Before we offered
them water and directions Marcel made them sign
a promissory note to join the club, while Garie
modeled t-shirts and hats. LOL.
I met my match (smart ass) on this trip. I
humbly acknowledge Dave Glass (Fred Flintstone)
and his skills.
Went back through Castle Hot Springs and headed
home…
Until next time
