THE TRUE ARIZONA DESERT TRAILS

Crown King Trip Report
November 1st, 2009

Looked like Sunday was a good day for a group run to Crown King. We had some guests, new club members and some we haven't seen in awhile. We met at 0730 at Wild Horse West and then headed to Castle Hot Spring road. We picked up Rob and Chris Jaynes there. At the park entrance Sheriff Officers advised us we have to pay an entrance fee to get in. What? No way. I pulled off and talked to a park employee
who appeared clueless. I told her we are not paying to drive through. We agreed onletting us through this time only. I am not sure what the status to pay will be in the future, so be prepared.

We aired downed and headed out. The trail was very dry and dusty. We spaced out appropriately. Walt in his 80 agreed to be tail gunner on this trip. It was nice having him back with us. We did have a few quads and bikes pass us but over all it was a slow day for a weekend. We started off with 9 rigs with 3 running late and trying to catch us. They were Dave Gore in his 60, and 2 friends Manzel in a 40 and Ernie in his 60. Some took the the hardlines, others took the by-passes.  The bad thing about a large group is the parking, it is difficult sometimes to get
out and watch the show. We stopped for lunch in the shade at Fort Misery. We had a club meeting, raised a few funds for the club via T-shirt and hat sales. I will let Marcel jump in on the meeting details. The trail is showing its wear and tear. Some places are easier and others are
becoming more of a challenge. Case in point: JD's rock is starting to reappear again. This is the ledge right before climbing into Oro Belle. This is an easy place to high center as Ahmet can attest to. See pic of his stock 80 getting a tug. Dave Gore, Ernie and Manzel caught up with us at JD's Rock and lent a hand with spotting and a mechanical issue. The group split up at Crown King. Some had to go home earlier than others. Some had to drink and be merry.
